Virtuoso and versatile composer

A virtuoso guitarist and versatile composer, Jules Meneboo explores a wide range of musical styles with great sensitivity. Today a master of flamenco after twenty years of passionate practice, notably in Andalusia, his eloquent playing and touch captivate in both his improvisations and his accompaniments of voice, dance and sometimes poetry.

Classical, jazz, traditional music: his musical experience is as rich as it is varied. After studies at the conservatoire and the JAM, he honed his improvisation skills playing jazz standards in clubs, and performed classical music repertoires in small ensembles — guitar duo, flute, lyric voice or solo — spanning works from Bach to Piazzolla, De Falla, Schubert and Villa Lobos.

Alongside this, he became guitarist in several traditional music ensembles where he performed over 200 pieces, mainly from the Mediterranean basin but also from Eastern Europe and beyond. He also ventured into Latin music: bossa nova, samba, choro, tangos, milongas, waltzes and candombes from the Argentine repertoire.

From Paco de Lucía to contemporary tablaos

The most defining moment for Jules was discovering flamenco through Paco de Lucía as a teenager. Immediately captivated by this music in which the guitar finds its fullest expression, he threw himself passionately into mastering this complex art, which fascinated him and transformed the way he uses his instrument. An art he has never stopped cultivating through travels and encounters… Granada, Seville, Madrid, Jerez, Córdoba, Málaga and Badajoz.

Today, his complex musical personality asserts itself in ensembles where he can let his compositions and contemporary touch speak freely, pushing boundaries as with Teclao or Compagnie des Herbes Folles (contemporary flamenco), and in his arrangements with singer Corinne Paule (Mediterranean music).

Modern arrangements he also places at the service of tradition, as with the group Divagando (Tango) or in various traditional flamenco tablaos.
